Hamdard Naunehal Assembly, Peshawar, 4th June 2003

Hamdard Naunehal Assembly, Peshawar was organized on 4th of June 2003 at Nishtar Hall Peshawar. Chief Guest of the Assembly was Haji Mohammad Oyes Khan, President of All School’s Management. 

Proceedings of the Bazm started with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Maryam Irfan, student of Iqra Rozat-ul-Atfal while Tariq Jamal of Yaseen Model School recited Naat-e-Rasool. Students of Modern Grammar School presented a National Song.

The topic of Bazm-e-Hamdard was “Are heavy school bags guarantee of progress in education”. Students of various schools presented their point of view about the topic. They included Sanam Nadeem of Zareef Memorial School, Sundas Tajik of Foundation Model School, Hijab Zafar of City School and Mahnaz of Working Folks Grammar School. Skits were presented by students of Tasawwur Public School while students of Pakistan International School presented Tableau and students of Namrah Public School Presented Folk dances.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Haji Mohammad Idris Khan said that we must lay emphasis on giving right kind of education instead of increasing the number of books and heavy bags. He said that at present more than one crore and thirty thousand children are going to schools but the number of children who are not attending any schools is much more than that. He said that we must ensure that every child gets the facility of going to school. 

Earlier the host of the Bazm Syed Mushtaque Husain Shah Bukhari welcomed the chief guest and the participants of the Bazm. 

Bazm-e-Hamdard concluded with the recitation of Duaa-e-Said presented by the students’ of Working Folks Grammar School.

Shura Hamdard, Peshawar, 3rd June 2003

Monthly session of Shura Hamdard, Peshawar chapter held on 3rd June 2003 at Hotel Pearl Continental, Peshawar. Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Shura were Dr. Abdul Mateen and Dr. Barkat Awan respectively.

Topic of discussion for the Shura was “Budget 2003-2004 and achievement of Economic Stability” Members of the Shura who spoke on this occasion included Col. Hameed Afridi, Ghulam Sarwar Momand, Ismail Qureshi, Dr. Abdul Mateen, Dr. Salahuddin and Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Awan. 



All the speakers were unanimous in their opinion that if Budget can not provide relief to the common man then it will be termed merely a document of figures only. They said that main objective of the budget should be to provide better quality of life to the citizens of this country and should create such an atmosphere that economic activity starts and more and more jobs are created.

Role of Women in Social Development
Shura Hamdard, Peshawar. 8th July,2003

Monthly session of Shura Hamdard was arranged at Hotel Pearl Continental Peshawar on 8th July, 2003. Topic of discussion for Shura was “Role of Women in Social Development and Our Social Behaviour”. Guest speaker of the Shura was Professor Munnawar Raoof, Former Chairperson of Urdu Department, Peshawar University. Speaking on this occasion she said that in social development women have equal role as men have. Our religion Islam also has given equal responsibilities and rights to both men and women. 



Col. Munnawar Afridi supporting the viewpoint of Prof. Raoof said that both men and women have their responsibilities to perform in their own designated spheres. Women can play an effective role even if they are in Hijab. Chief Editor of monthly “Roobaroo” Ms. Shamim Akhtar said that there are many laws to protect the rights of women but ground realities are very different and women are denied their lawful and legitimate rights at one pretext or other. Justice ® Mian Burhanuddin said that laws give full protection to all the rights of women, they can own property, they have rights to inheritance according to shariat and they have right to Mehar. The problem is that women themselves are ignorant of their rights.



Deputy Nazim-e-Ala of Peshawar Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Khalil speaking on this occasion said that if we compare our society with that of European society then we can proudly say that we are much better than European society. Women in our society have much more respect than the western women. He said that actually worst enemy of women are the members of their own gender. Dr. Salahuddin said that Islam has given all the rights to women but we do not follow the principles of Islam and are governed by customs of society and usually betray the rights of women. 

Others who expressed their opinion on the topic included Naseer Ahmad Paracha, Ms. Shahida of daily Express, Yousuf Raja Chishti and Dr. Abdul Mateen.

Shura Hamdard Rawalpindi / Islamabad, July 2003

Monthly session of Shura Hamdard Rawalpindi / Islamabad was organized on 1st July 2003 at Hamdard Markaz, Murree Road, Rawalpindi. Speaker Shura Hamdard and Chairman of Islamic Ideology Council Dr. S. M. Zaman presided over the session. The topic of the Shura was “Role of Women in Social Development and Social Behaviour”
 
Members of the Shura who attended the session included Col. Ghulam Sarwar, Prof. Wadood Ahmad Jilani, Prof. Yaqoob Hashmi, Prof. Iqbal Bakht, Dr. Muneer Hasan, Dr. Rasheed Nisar, Anjum Khokhar, Zahid Abbas, Dr. Shagufta Moosvi and others. Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Women Development and Social Work Sohail Safdar attended the Shura as a guest speaker.



In his opening Presidential remarks Dr. S.M. Zaman said that though Islam has given all the rights to women but even today 80% of the women don’t have any say in the affairs of life and they don’t have the right to express their opinion. He said that no society can prosper unless there is justice and equality. He said that women have a very significant role to play in the development of society. Dr. Zaman said that the need of hour is that we must change our attitudes and social behaviour towards women and must give her due role and respect in society.

Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Women Development and Social Work Sohail Safdar speaking on this occasion said that Men and women both are equal partners of life and society. Social behaviors towards women and customs and prejudices are changing fast.



He said that Government of Pakistan is also playing its due role in this regard. 

Expressing his views Prof. Wadood Ahmad Jilani said that the role of Muslim women has always been laudable. He said that in Pakistan movement also women played a very significant role. Even today in our political life they are very active and they have been elected in large number to represent the nation in our assemblies. Prof. Iqbal Bakht addressing the shura members said that women are subjected to various kinds of pressures even today. He said that we must encourage women to be equal partners in our economic activity also. Dr. Rasheed Nisar and Dr. Shagufta Moosvi also expressed their views on the topic.

In the end prayers were offered for the departed soul of Mr. Tasweer Husain Hameedi who was formerly the Secretary of Shura and Director Programmes of Hamdard.
