MEMORIAL MEETING FOR SHAHEED HAKIM MOHAMMED SAID HELD

Brig. ® Muhammad Shafiullah Qureshi S.I. (M). Chairman, Board of Secondary Education, Karachi has said that one of the most outstanding qualities of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was his honesty which impressed me much and I hoped that the students who got education from Hamdard educational institutions would spread sense of honesty in Pakistani Society.

He was addressing the fifth memorial meeting on Friday October 17, 2003. organized by Hamdard Public School to commemorate the memory of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said on his martyrdom day at Bait al-Hikmah auditorium: Madinat al Hikmah, Karachi.

He further said that Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said had built this city of education. science and culture and a university and other educational, institutions here at this remote area to provide opportunities of employment to the people of villages besides the facilities of education from primary to university level. As many village people have been working here, he added and said to the children that they were studying in the institution of a great honest man and he hoped that the children when they became adult would work and serve the country with integrity and honesty like Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said.

Earlier speaking on the occasion Mrs. Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan gave a brief account of many good things and one bad thing of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said's life in the form of a story of a boy who was born in Delhi, India. The one bad thing was that his father died when he was only two years old. Among good things were that he had been blessed with a mother of strong will and a loving elder brother, a good mind, a good heart and a free will and these good things he used for the benefit of mankind.

Mrs. Sadia Rashid further said that this young man (Hakim Mohammed Said) learnt to have strong faith from his mother and elder brother, he also learnt to have strong sense of responsibility and not just a sense of duty, but pleasure in doing his duty. He also learnt from his family what it meant to care for those who needed to be cared, to be sympathetic and to become a sympathizer (Hamdard) to them. So he became a hakim (physician) to help relieve the pains of sufferers. The little boy in the story was Hakim Mohammed Said, the mother was Rabia and the father was Hakim Abdul Majeed.

She said that from a poor man, migrated to Pakistan from India with empty hands to serve his ideological state, Hakim Mohammed Said had become a rich man by the grace of God and share dint of his labour. But he was not satisfied with just worldly riches and used his riches to help others.

Students of Hamdard Public School and Hamdard Village School paid great tribute to the founder of their schools in their speeches and poems.
