June, 2004 at Hotel Pearl Continental Peshawar. Shura
Speaker Dr. Abdul Mateen presided over the session. Deputy

the Shura introduced the topic of discussion. He was of
the view that negotiations to resolve all outstanding
disputes between Pakistan and India be resumed on a
priority basis. Haji Mohammad Javed speaking on this
occasion said that we must thoroughly study the possible
effects of good relations between Pakistan and India on
our Politics and Economy. He said it is commendable that
in India democracy is flourishing t while in our country
democracy has still not taken firm roots. That’s why we
negotiate with India with a weaker position.
Maulana
Saeeduddin Sherkoti speaking on this occasion said that no
one can oppose the idea of good neighborly relations
between Pakistan and India, but we must keep in mind the
fact that Pakistan was created on the basis of Islamic
Ideology. So whenever we decide to negotiate with India
we must always keep in mind this ideology. Col.® Hameed
Afridi in his observations said that the basic hurdle
between Pakistan India relations up till now was this that
India has not accepted the very basis of creation of
Pakistan. Dr. Iqbal Khaleel speaking on this occasion said
that the basic cause of our strained relations with India
is the issue of Kashmir. He said that unless we resolve
this core issue there could be no good relations between
Pakistan and India.
Expressing his views Haji Mohammad Adeel said that we must
take lession from Indian elections and thereafter smooth
transfer of power. Abdul Karim Kundi said that in terms of
democracy India has set some good examples and we must
learn lesson from them. Hakeem Abdul Waheed expressing his
views said that Congress has historically never shown
friendly stance towards Pakistan, so we must take a firm
stand while negotiating with present Congress government
of India. Justice® Burhanuddin said that before
negotiations the whole nation must be taken into
confidence.

Dr.
Zahoor Ahmad Awan said that we must negotiate with India
on an equal basis. He said that by the grace of Allah we
are an atomic power and are not inferior or weaker than
any country including India. Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour
expressing his views on the topic said that during the
past few years the world has changed drastically. We can’t
survive in isolation. He said that we must have meaningful
dialogue with India. Good relations between these two
neighbors will be beneficial not only for these two
countries but they will also have a positive impact on the
whole region.
Summing
up the discussion Speaker of Hamdard Shura Dr. Abdul
Mateen said that we must participate in negotiations with
India but without any compromise on the basic principles
and our stand on different issues.
