Mehfil-e-Milad organised by students of Hamdard Village School

Students of Hamdard Village School organised a Mehfil-e-Milad on 28th May 2003. Mehfil-e-Milad was held at Bait al Hikmah auditorium. Chief Guest of this mehfil was Agha Jee of Dar-ul-Uloom, Hazratabad, Gadap. Besides teachers and students Mohtarma Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, Dr. Ansar Zahid Khan, General Secretary, Hamdard Education Society, Syed Mohammad Yaqoob, Coordinator, Idara-e-Said, Hafiz Pervaiz Ahmad, Administrator, Hamdard Public School and Mr. Imtiaz Ali Brohi, Principal, Hamdard Village School also attended this auspicious gathering.

Students of Hamdard Village School recited verses from Quran and Hadith and presented Hamds, Naats and speeches about various aspects of the life of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Addressing the students Agha Jee said that Rasool-e-Pak (PBUH) has advised and instructed us to Duaa to Allah all the time. He said that Duaa is the basic concept of all the prayers.

In conclusion of Mehfil-e-Milaad sweets were distributed among all the participants and students.

Hamdard Naunehal Assembly, Rawalpindi / Islamabad, held on 2nd June 2003

Meeting of Hamdard Naunehal Assembly, Rawalpindi / Islamabad was organised on 2nd June 2003 at Hamdard Markaz, Murree Road, Rawalpindi. Topic of discussion for this assembly was “Are heavy school bags essential for progress in education”.

Renowned educationist Allama Hafiz Mohammad Yaqoob Hashmi presided over the assembly. Boys and girls belonging to different schools of Rawalpindi / Islamabad region participated in this assembly. These schools included Barkat Ali Model School, Qasim Hall Academy, Husain Public School, Faiz Ishaq Public School, Ahmad Public School, Newland Public School, Pool Star Academy, Aisha Lasani School, Ghazni Model School, Oxford Public School and Hamdard Public School. Samarah Bukhari of Qasim Hall Academy acted as speaker of the Assembly.



Young speakers of the assembly expressed their views on the topic and urged upon the authorities to reduce the burden of school bags..

National President of Hamdard Naunehal Assembly Mohtarmah Sadia Rashid addressing the participating students of assembly said that education not only gives us an insight into the world of knowledge but it also teaches us that how to spend our lives. She said that education plays an important role in character building of an individual. It gives us the insight to distinguish between right and wrong and good and evil. Mohtarmah Sadia Rashid said that good education is not confined to course books alone but good and beneficial education and training is imparted by dedicated teachers and parents also. She said that students face many problems during their academic life and the issue of heavy school bags is also one of them. She urged the authorities to look into this problem of students and evolve some measures to relieve students from facing this problem.

Earlier President of Hamdard Naunehal Assembly Allama Hafiz Mohammad Yaqoob Hashmi, Former Secretary of Education, Govt. of Azad Kashmir threw light on the topic of discussion.

Chief Guest Mohammad Hanif Abbasi, Member National Assembly paid glowing tributes to Shaheed-e-Pakistan Hakim Mohammed Said. He said that it is a great service of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said that he provided a very effective forum to children of Pakistan by organising Hamdard Naunehal Assembly. In this assembly children can express their views on many aspects of life. He urged students to keep alive the vision of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said and devote their time and energy in getting the best knowledge and education. 

The programme consisted of tableaus, drama skits and national songs presented by students of different schools. Some participants were awarded certificates and shields for best performance. Programme concluded with Dua-e-Said presented by students of Hamdard Public School, Islamabad.

Shura Hamdard Welcomes the Federal Budget for 2003 04
Shura Hamdard Karachi discusses Federal Budget in its meeting on 12th June 2003

Speakers at a meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi Chapter have welcomed the Federal Budget for 2003 04 and said that although it was a deficit budget and Rupees 179 billion deficit is to be met by borrowings, but keeping in view the present circumstances a budget better than this could not be presented.

The meeting of Shura was held on Thursday June 12, 2003 and the topic of discussion was "Economic Elements of Pakistan Movement and Federal Budget 2003 04". The Shura was presided over by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Justice Retired Haziquel Khairi at Avari Towers Hotel.



Besides Mrs. Sadia Rashid, President, Shura Hamdard Pakistan, Qutubuddin Aziz, Dy. Chairman, Shura Hamdard Karachi Chapter, Dr. Syed Irtefaque Ali, Col (R) Mukhtar Ahmed Butt, Syed Mustafa Ali Brelvi, Dr. Syed Amjad Ali Jaffery, Haq Nawaz Akhtar, Adm (R) Hamid Khalid, Anwarul Haq Siddiqui, Sarshar Siddiqui, Mohammed Ahmed Sabzwari, Prof. Afaque Siddiqui, Dr. Syed Hamid Mehmood, Dr. Nazar Kamrani, Prof. Dr. Wiqar Ahmed Rizvi, Khan Mohammed Hussain Khan, Dr. Mirza Arshad Ali Baig and Professor Dr. Naeem Qureshi participated and spoke on the occasion.

The speakers said that economic indicators showed some progress and stability in country's overall economy. Reasonable ratio of development, reduction in inflation, recovery of taxes and increase in foreign exchange reserves were positive indicators. However the budget deficit of Rs. 179 billion during next year would be met through domestic and foreign financing.

Negative points of the budget are that despite the assurance made by the Finance Minister, the prices of ghee had been raised. Similarly amount of income tax has also been raised on electric bills and this will affect the consumers. 

The speakers while lauding the abolishment of excise duty on paper and board were critical of not introducing new saving programme in the budget to increase the national savings. They were of the view that the amount allocated in the budget for poverty alleviation be spent on granting subsidy to the foods and daily use items of in order to keep low the prices of commodities etc. In this way the poor could be able to get relief.


The speakers demanded that only one dish menu should be allowed in Nikah and Walima ceremonies and all other functions of marriage such as Mehndi etc. be banned strictly because they had no religious signifcace. National leaders, ministers and government officials should refrain from attending big functions of marriages and government functions be curtailed. People of substance should set an example of simplicity and reformation of society.

The speakers said that local and small industry should be protected and promoted along with the big and large industry , exemption of property tax be extended to 200 yards houses and to provide cheaper medicines to the poor a reduction in tax on raw material of medicines be made.

The speakers urged the government to eliminate mismanagement and to implement rule of law, without which the prevailing poverty, hunger and unemployment can not be abolished from the country. They also urged to appoint a minister for Science and Technology and to make a solid planning for the development of education. They were suspicious that if the present situation of persistent uproar continues in the parliament any Cromewell might come to abolish the parliament and democracy. Shura condoled the tragic death of Abdul Raziq Khan, former Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly and extended its sympathies to the bereaved family. 

Beside members, observers in a large number attended the meeting.
